Publish Open Access for free or with a discount: Elsevier

What are the main outlines of the agreement with Elsevier?

No author's fee for most of Elsevier's journals

Corresponding authors of Dutch universities or Dutch university medical centers can publish open access in most Elsevier journals at no extra cost. To see if a journal is included in this deal, check the Open Access Journal Browser.

The new deal includes most Cell Press & The Lancet full OA journals and the Cell Press hybrid titles "Trends in Biotechnology" and "Trends in Cancer". Some top journals, such as The Lancet, have been kept out of the deal.

How does it work?
  • Indicate in the workflow module that your research was conducted at a Dutch university.
  • Indicate that you opt for a CC-BY license.
  • See the workflow documentation for further explanation.
  • Then choose the Gold Open Access option.

Which journals are covered by this deal?

What about the journals that aren't covered?

What if a journal is not on the list, but you still want to publish open access? That's possible. Elsevier will still offer the option to publish open access following payment of the author's fee. This fee, however, will not be reimbursed automatically. In cases like this, you can choose a different journal or you must seek your own funding for the author's fee.
