Databases for literature

ACM Digital Library

The digital library contains the fulltext of or references to ACM (Association for Computing Machinery) publications: journal articles, articles in newsletters and conference proceedings, from 1954 onwards.
Within the ACM Digital Library, you can also consult the ACM Guide to Computing Literature, a database with over two million bibliographic records, as well as abstracts of publications from ACM and other publishers.

BrowZine
Google Scholar
In Google Scholar, you can find references to academic publications in many different disciplines and forms (e.g. journal articles and preprints). A lot of these publications are available freely online.
Citation data of the publication (reference to which individual or publication cites the information) can be found at 'Cited by'.

IEEE Xplore

IEEE Xplore is a digital library offering full text access to research literature on electrical engineering, information technology, electronics and related disciplines. It provides access to more than three million full text documents, books, ebooks, journals, transactions, magazines, conference proceedings, standards and educational material, and (since 2005) to the AbstractPlus records of the VDE VERLAG Conference Proceedings and Bell Labs Technical Journal.

JoVE
MathSciNet

An electronic database, in which reviews, abstracts and bibliographical information about mathematical literature can be accessed. Most of the articles are part of the Mathematics Subject Classification which makes them easy to find in the 'tree-like' structure, in which all subjects are sub-divided. A staff of mathematical professionals has selected expert reviewers for Mathematical Reviews (MR), which first appeared in 1940. Each year they assess the new articles that are added to the database.

PubMed
PubMed is a freely accessible database and the most consulted database for biomedical research articles. Its content contains Medline, but with a different search interface and search options.

Reaxys

Reaxys is a web-based, Chemistry database, with references to journals and patents that can be used to search for:
- Chemical reactions.
- Compounds (or parts thereof).
- Physical/chemical properties of compounds.
- Spectra.
- Type of reactions and named reactions.
A synthesis plan can also be created.

RUQuest
RUQuest is a search engine for the collection of the RU University Library, Nijmegen, and for collections of other libraries worldwide.
RUQuest contains printed and digital books, periodicals, journal articles, book chapters and more.
Full text publications can be opened by clicking 'View full text'.

Science of Synthesis

Database with synthesis methods, searchable by structure and/or text. Retrieves articles with a description of the synthesis method: experimental procedure, reaction scheme and synthesis results. It is also possible to browse by specific compound classes or special topics, e.g. cross-coupling or stereoselective synthesis.

Web of Science

The Web of Science by Clarivate Analytics contains references of international journal articles from all scientific disciplines.
It includes data from four citation indexes:
- Science Citation Index (SCI): 1945 - present
- Social Sciences Citation Index (SSCI): 1956 - present
- Arts & Humanities Citation Index (AHCI): 1975 - present
- Emerging Sources Citation Index (ESCI): 2015 - present
Citation indexes offer a unique search method to find later-published journal articles, in which a publication is cited.
