In Zotero it is possible to import PDFs (saved on your PC) into your library by dragging them from your pdf-folder into the center pane of Zotero.
Zotero uses the Digital Object Identifier (DOI) for this, a unique and persistent number which is included in many electronic publications. It is not possible for Zotero to extract data from PDFs without a DOI. In that case only the PDFs are imported into the library; the bibliographic description must be added in another way.
Now a reference of the publication in question is created in Zotero and the PDF file is attached to this record in the field “Attachment”.
