Doctoral dissertation and master's theses: general form

  • For a doctoral dissertation or master's thesis which is not available from a database service, use the following format:

    Auteur, A. A. (jaar). Titel van de dissertatie of master’s thesis [Unpublished doctoral dissertation of Unpublished master’s thesis]. Naam universiteit.

  • For a doctoral dissertation or master’s thesis available from a database service such as Proquest Dissertations and Theses, use the following format:

    Author, A. A. (year). Title of doctoral dissertation or master’s thesis (Publication No. xxx) [Doctoral dissertation or Master’s thesis, name of university]. Name of database.

  • For a doctoral dissertation or master's thesis available on the Internet, use the following format": 
    Author, A. A. (year). Title of doctoral dissertation or master’s thesis (Doctoral dissertation or Master’s thesis, name of university). University archive name. https://xxxxx
